Cohen was a monkey for his first Halloween. My favorite part of the costume is the little banana sticking out of the side. He was a good sport about the costume and enjoyed showing it off to Great Grandpa Les, Grandma Hawkley, and Grandma and Grandpa Fisher.

Haven't posted in over a year, which is really too bad because the last year has been very eventful. As you can see, we had a baby. This is Cohen. I am not planning on doing too many catch up posts, because let's be honest, it just wouldn't happen. So here's 10 pictures of him at varying times in his life thus far. But first, some answers to FAQ's you might be wondering. He was born on July 16 at 4:14 pm weighing in at a healthy 7 lb 13 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. We are absolutely in love with him. He has changed our lives in every way possible and we couldn't be happier, truly. He is almost 4 months old now and his smiling, babbling, laughing, rolling over, sleeping well at night, chewing on this fingers, and packing on the pounds. Why are you still reading this? Look at the pictures! Oh yeah, and sorry no hospital pics...I don't know where those are right now. Our file maintenance is a little disorganized at the moment.

This kid is a daddy's boy through and through. They are so cute together, I can hardly stand it and I am so lucky to be able to see them together every day. He lights up whenever daddy is around. I'm a little jeal' but Cohen's got a soft spot for me too so I can't complain too much.

-saw the spill canvas in concert a couple weeks ago. it was awesome.

-remodeling the basement
-finishing the garage out (mud, texture, paint)
-went to seattle in january
-went to salt lake in april to visit mom
-brandan has been to boston, salinas, san fran, chicago, boston again, chicago again, boston again...chicago again in a couple weeks...i'm probably forgetting some other places. it's all a blur now. i think memphis is in there somewhere too, but that might have been last year. anyways, he travels a lot for work.

-janette turned 25

-we ordered ipads. mine is coming in the mail this week. brandan is getting his in boston. i told my coworkers i was getting one and they called me a hipster. and they told me i dress like a grandma sometimes.

I found this sweater halfway done while we were packing to move and brought it with me to finish. i finished it this morning. it took a long time because of all of the beads, but i like how it turned out. it would probably fit a little kid 1-2 years old i'm guessing.

so the other house we were going to buy fell through. long story short, it was bank owned so the selling bank wasn't willing to fix anything but our bank was not willing to give us the loan until certain expensive things were fixed, which we didn't want to do until we actually owned the place, so we walked away.
this is our new house. it's official, we signed on it on thursday. we're not actually moving in for a week or two, until we get it repainted on the inside and stuff. it is 4 bed/2.5 bath in a nice neighborhood and we are very excited.
in other news, i took a trip to the er last friday. i woke up with pretty intense stomach pain and then i started passing out and vomiting, so brandan drove me over there and i had emergency surgery in which they removed one of my tubes. now i'm fine and healthy but still really sore and waiting for the 4 small incisions to heal. i had my first postop appointment yesterday and they removed my sutures and said everything looks good but they still want me resting for another week or two before they release me to go back to work. anyone have any good movies ideas for me to rent?

we are in the process of buying this house right now. it's 3 bedroom, 2 bath upstairs with an unfinished basement. we got a pretty good deal on it, although it needs a lot of work on the inside. the grass has been getting watered the last few weeks and is already starting to look a lot greener. we're really excited!

Graduation

Yesterday, Brandan graduated from BSU with a degree in Mass Communications/Journalism. Here's the video in case you missed it. It was really loud in there so you have to listen carefully.
We had a party that night, I made a bunch of cupcakes and a bunch of rolls to add to the spread of pulled pork and salads. It was good.

this is our new dining table. i got it at work when i realized it was the last one in the company, and it had been my favorite one for some time. we set it up in Ryan's house until we get our own place that has room for it. but i love it. no chairs yet, we'll probably pick some of those out later.

in the 4 months since my last post:

we went to boston and visited my brother Ethan and his wife Laura. Brandan took an Apple certification class for Final Cut Pro and is now an Apple Certified Pro. this is us eating at the Union Oyster house.

we each had a birthday. this is Brandan blowing out the candles at my mom's house

we had dinner at gino's. this is where we had our first date some 5 1/2 years ago. it moved from downtown boise to meridian so we had to eat at the real one one last time. sorry about the blur.
we also have been to 2 funerals this year, both on Brandan's side of the family. his Aunt Margy passed away as well as his Grandma Sallie.
Brandan also just got a new computer. It's a macpro tower. he's pretty excited about it. and, if i haven't already mentioned, this is also his last semester at BSU. we are getting so excited for him to graduate! i'm still liking decorating at RC Willey. and other than that, not too much to report.

Thanks to Ethan and Laura for letting me and Janette crash at their place in Boston. We had a great time and more pictures should follow after this post. I took the Intro to Final Cut Pro class that lasted three days 10am-6pm. I did miss out on a lot stuff that E,L&J got to do but it was well worth it. Because I'm now a Certified Pro in Final Cut Pro!!!

flat tire

i got a flat tire on my car last week. if you look closely you can see the screw sticking out of the side of the tire, it's at about 11:00. the weirdest part about it was that the screw was poking through from inside the tire and it was on the side so i'm not sure how it got in there. anyways i was kind of helpless and Brandan came out and helped me with it. we had to get 2 new tires at les schwab. it was a bummer. but my car was about due for them anyways so it's ok.

Sun Valley

we went up to Sun Valley last weekend with Brandan's family. Ryan had rented a condo for his Christmas present to the fam up there, and they ended up upgrading us to a cottage instead. it was pretty cool, and no one wanted to leave the place so we ended up pretty much spending the whole time hanging out in the cottage. i would really recommend it, we had a lot of fun.

when i got home from work yesterday, there was a package waiting on the counter, hand addressed to me and Brandan. i wasn't sure what it was until i saw the name of the sender: CLAY. it had to be my Christmas tree star! the one i dreamed up the week before and wondered if he would be up for making such a project. he was, and only a few days later, here it was. waiting for me. i opened it immediately and this is what i found.

and this is on the tree. i got the tree out as soon as i opened the package and was too excited to stop and decorate it before taking the picture. we have a really small tree so it looks big in this picture but i think it is absolutely perfect, and we'll get a bigger tree someday anyways.

1st week

i finished out my first week as a decorator at RC Willey yesterday. all in all it was a good week. everyone in my department is really cool and seem to be patient while i figure out what i'm doing. i think the hardest part is getting an idea of how to decorate something, and keeping the "creative juices" running all day. usually by afternoon i am a little burned out. i hear it gets easier as you go though.
other than that it was a pretty uneventful week. this upcoming week is also looking pretty normal except we are going up to Sun Valley this weekend with Brandan's family. that should be a lot of fun. and a couple of birthdays in my family. happy birthday Clay and Anthony! Brandan also has finals the following week so he will probably be studying a lot.
i have been working on some Christmas gifts too and other projects. most of them are surprises so i can't post any pics or anything but i will probably put some up after the fact. we still haven't decorated our house for Christmas. hopefully we will get that done this week too.

goodbye sales, hello display

yesterday was my last day as a salesperson at rc willey. i decided it wasn't really my thing and applied for an in-house transfer to the display department. i am going to be a decorator now. i am pretty excited considering i no longer have to walk around bored all day on the sales floor and i won't have the stress or fluctuation of an all-commission sales job.
on a different note, brandan and i went and saw twilight last night. i thought it was good overall but super cheesy. i don't know what i was expecting, though. i guess all in all i liked the book better.
brandan and i spent thanksgiving with his family. it was a really good meal and a fun time with everyone. i made the rolls again and a blueberry pie. i didn't get any pics of the event so this is kind of a boring post. **Thanks Hailey for the picture tip!

Brandan and I carved pumpkins at Anthony and Candice's earlier this week. I think they all turned out really good. The boys carved theirs on Tuesday and Candice and I carved ours on Thursday which explains the 2 pictures. Brandan's is the one with the ghost coming out of it, Anthony's is the one with drill holes all over it, in the other picture mine is on the left and Candice's is on the right. Sadie also got to paint a pumpkin which I don't have a picture of but she was really cute. Anthony also busted out the cocoamotion Thursday night which officially kicked off hot cocoa season for me. I highly recommend the cocoamotion too, it makes the best cocoa ever.

we stayed at Joe and Jessica's house. they were very kind to let us crash there while they were unfortunately out of town in california, so we didn't get to see them. but their house was so cute and cozy, we really appreciated the awesome accommodations.

Brandan got off work at 3 on friday afternoon. he got home and we finished packing up the truck and left for seattle around 5. we hit Ontario right on time for dinner and decided to try Brewsky's Broiler and their beer-battered fries as recommended by Brandan's dad. it didn't disappoint, it was delish. since i am obsessed with taking pictures of my food, here's a couple. i got the pulled pork sandwich and Brandan got the taco salad.

we hit the road again and for some reason, didn't stop again until Kennewick...we seriously almost ran out of gas.

see? his truck only has a 12 gallon tank and we filled up 11.86.

we had good weather most of the way there and Brandan got sleepy about an hour out so i took over the wheel. he fell asleep and it started raining a little, no biggie. then it started raining a lot, kind of scary, but there were only a couple other cars on the road so not too bad. then there was fog like you wouldn't believe, i couldn't see a thing. i tried to play it cool, but before i knew it i had to wake brandan up so he could help me navigate. i ended up taking the next exit and making him drive again. anyways we ended up making it there safe and sound around 1 am.

Brandan and I went out to a steakhouse in Meridian the other night called Kahootz. It was probably some of the best steak I have ever had and it wasn't too expensive either-for steak that is. It was about $20 per plate. I got the prime rib and Brandan got the top sirloin, I would recommend both. If you ever go there, save room and order the bread pudding too. It is enough for at least 4-6 to eat but it is good as leftovers too. Anyways it was super good. I give the place 5 stars and/or 2 thumbs up.
Other than that not too much has been going on. We went over to Anthony and Candice's this morning for brunch and to watch the morning session of conference. I made my cinnamon rolls and took them over and they had prepared some hashbrown casserole. It was super good. Their kids are cute. I even got Lauren to laugh a little.
I also realized that Christmas is less than 3 months away and I already have some great ideas for gifts this year. I wish I could post about them but it's a secret...I might be done shopping by Halloween though. That would be a first.

Brandan and I went to the RC Willey Picnic tonight. It was lots of fun, hung out with some work people, and I won a $100 gas card to Chevron, which is awesome. I made some rainbow chip cupcakes for the event and I saw a lot of people eating them, we also didn't go home with any leftovers which I always take as a small compliment. I hate going to a potluck and the dish you take is untouched. Like everyone walking by is seeing something better than what you made...so just a bit of wisdom: you can't go wrong at a potluck with rainbow chip cupcakes.

it's been a couple of weeks, not much has been going on here. Brandan started school again on Monday and he has classes every weeknight except for Tuesdays and for the entire month of September he also has a weekend class from 8-5 Saturday and Sunday in addition to his already full time job and side projects so I guess we probably won't have anything too exciting going on until the semester is over. He also is driving up to Sun Valley today for work so he won't be home until 12 or 1 tonight which means he misses his first Wednesday night class. Anyways Brandan is crazy busy and I am not really doing anything but working. I did read the entire Twilight series a couple weeks ago, enjoyed it, obsessed over it for a couple weeks, now I'm kind of sick of it so I'm going to stop thinking about it all together until the movie comes out. hopefully I will like it again by then. Brandan and I love our new iPhones, recommend them to everyone. and I am itching to start a new craft but I have a couple more to finish before I start anything new. that's all that's going on in our world. the good news is that Brandan will only have to take 3 classes in the spring and then he should be set to graduate. I can't wait.

we woke up early Saturday morning and went to Tamarack where we went Zip Lining!!! it was so fun! when we got there it was raining and there was tons of thunder so we had to wait for it to stop before we could start. it also hailed a little bit in the middle but that made it a little more interesting i suppose. i am terrified of heights so it was very scary at first but it was such a rush! i recommend it to everyone!

Friday night we camped at Huckleberry campground right next to Tamarack and also right on the lake, it was beautiful! We were careful not to burn the tin foil dinners this time but they still weren't great. for breakfast Saturday morning, we made a german pancake in the dutch oven and ate it with lemon juice and powdered sugar. we woke up early and watched the sunrise.

It is our 4th anniversary this week (14th-Thursday) and we decided to celebrate last weekend because Brandan will be working on our anniversary this year as well as being out of town this weekend. This is the present Brandan got me even though we said no presents...but he says it doesn't really count because he actually got it using our Sony points so he technically didn't spend any money on it. Anyways, it's a new camera! I love it. It takes awesome pics, as will be demonstrated by my next post.

Brandan had the fabulous idea for us to go camping this weekend so after I got off work on Saturday night at 6, we took the truck up to Schafer Butte and camped a night and spent some time in the outdoors and then came home. This was actually our first camping trip since we've been married despite that we have had the camping gear to do so for like 2 years now. It was a lot of fun and we will definitely be doing it again in a few weeks!

we didn't know how long they needed to cook so we based it on the "smell test." Brandan was putting up the tent most of the time and I can't smell anything ever so when he got back, we just decided to look at them and see what progress was made. apparently the first rule of foil dinners is not to put them over the flame. they were totally ruined, we couldn't even eat the carrots even though they still looked good. so instead we ate s'more flavored poptarts.

My brother helped me out by being my cable grip for this show and thought it was pretty funny. I really wanted to show off a new piece of equipment that I got. Its called the spider brace. its the handle bars on my camera which make it so that camera isn't that shaky. it distributes out the weight of the camera more so you can go a lot longer with out being fatigued. I love doing this style of work. who knows I might be doing television one day.

So when I get tired of quilting, I knit. These are my latest creations. Both of my visiting teachers are pregnant, one with a boy and the other a girl so I will probably give these to them. I know it's the middle of summer but I made them a little big so hopefully they will be able to wear them this winter.

This is a quilt I made 3 years ago around the 4th of July and it was mostly done but I hadn't finished the binding so every year when I pull it out I strategically hide the side that isn't finished because it's mostly just for display anyways or for the occasional cold lap that never occurs in the middle of the summer. But anyways this year when I pulled it out I decided to cross it off my list and finish the binding. So here it is, 3 years later, a finished quilt. I started another quilt about 2 years ago that I need to finish quilting. It is queen size and is going to take forever. I have about 160 blocks left to quilt by hand so I figure if I do one every day, I might have it done by Christmas.

so on monday night, i noticed that my heart rhythm was a little off, like skipping a beat and then beating 2 really fast and then beating 3 or 4 times normally, repeat. this isn't that unusual for me, so i didn't worry about it. it usually only happens once every couple months and then goes away after like a minute. so i went to bed but the tuesday morning, it was still there. so i was like "brandan, you gotta feel my pulse!" and he did and was like, "that's not normal." so i called ask-a-nurse (step 2 if i can't figure out what's wrong with me on webmd) and i talked to like 4 nurses and finally the last one was like "you need to go to the er." so brandan took me in to the er and they took a bunch of blood and gave me an iv and did an ekg test and finally the doctor came in and told me i have a heart murmur, which isn't uncommon in women. i've probably had it my whole life and most people who have them have nothing to worry about. regardless, he wants me to see a cardiologist just to be sure it is nothing serious. those who have serious ones usually have to have one of the valves in their hearts replaced with a pig or cow heart valve. anyways i am going to the cardiologist in july. i am kind of excited because the doctor said he will probably do an ultrasound on my heart which seems like it might be kind of interesting.

i48 Kung-Fu Movie

So this is what I was able to come up with given the Kung-Fu Genre. The line we had to use was "Just Keep Them Coming." The prop was a Coffee Cup. Character was Larry Young that we had to use. I was proud of what I did in such a short period of time.

i48 competition

Brandan participated in the i48 competition last weekend. The i48 is a film competition in which you are given a genre, prop, character, line, and 48 hours to make a short movie using all of those components. We turned in the movie last Sunday night and then all of them were shown on the big screen at the Flicks on Saturday night (of course we couldn't go--the wedding) and then Sunday night they showed the "Best of" at the Egyptian and handed out awards. We went to the Best of but Brandan's video wasn't shown that night so we missed out on seeing it on the big screen. I thought his movie was great though. If you want to see it, he posted it on my family's blog in the links on the right under drHawkleys. Of the other movies we saw last night, some were pretty good but others were just lame and didn't make much sense.

Bridesmaids

Hailey and Curtis got married this weekend! It was a busy one. Wes and Kierstin stayed with us as well as their baby Westin. It was a fun experience having a baby in the house for a couple days. Anyways on Friday, I took the day off from work and helped arrange flowers for the wedding. Hailey, Kelsey, Mary and I also went to the spa for some pampering which was so nice. The wedding was at 2 on Saturday and afterwards we went out to the dinner/reception at the Shores Clubhouse. It was a beautiful reception, they did a great job decorating. We helped take everything down afterwards and didn't get home until about 1:30.

This is my new niece Lauren. She is Anthony and Candice's baby. She was born last night at 9:09 and weighed 7 lb 8 oz. She has red hair and is so very cute. We went up to see her this morning before Brandan had to go to work.

bridesmaid dress

So Hailey is getting married next weekend and I am one of the bridesmaids. This is the dress we all are wearing. It was about 3 inches too short for me so I had to lengthen it by that much. Here it is after the alterations. You can kind of tell but all in all I think it looks pretty good! It took like 3 hours to do which I was really surprised at but there were a ton of seams to do so I guess it makes sense. Anyways I'm excited for the wedding. Wes and Kiersten are coming to stay with us for it and they have a new baby so that should be fun, and it should be interesting having a baby in the house. It'll give us a small taste of what it will be like to be parents someday!

Brandan is done with school for the semester! 2 more semesters to go! So we now have a couple months before the fall semester picks up and hopefully that means more time for fun! Summer plans so far include: camping trips, dutch oven cooking experiments, road trips, our 4th anniversary, and lots of craziness in between.

New Bed

I forgot to mention that at the Parking Lot Sale, my manager gave me an AMAZING deal on the floor model of our Celebrity Mattress by Tempurpedic. I had been eyeing this mattress for a while and Brandan and I talked about buying one a few times but it was still a little steep, even with an employee discount. So my manager finally gave me a deal I couldn't resist. The best news is it was only on the floor for about 2 weeks and the only reason they switched it out is because corporate wanted it displayed in a king suddenly, so it is practically brand new. It does take some time to adjust to the new mattress because it is totally different than "normal mattress technology" but I think it's going pretty well. I do feel more rested lately.
My schedule has changed a lot since I became a sales person which makes everything more difficult since I was kind of set in my routine. The thing that has suffered the most is our house. It is messier than ever. Good thing I have Wednesday off.
One more thing, my mom and I took a cooking class last week at Easy Cookin'. It was amazing. Jon Mortimer taught the class and I learned so much! He taught us how to make crepes, frittatas, bread pudding, and croissants and everything was absolutely delicious. I love to cook and can't wait to try some of his recipes on my own! I recommend cooking classes, they are fun.

Parking Lot Sale

So yesterday was the Parking Lot Sale and my official first day as a salesperson at RC Willey. It went really well. I sold quite a bit of stuff. I did get a pretty bad sunburn on my arms though. By the end of the day everyone was calling me Lobster. After work, Brandan and I went out to dinner to celebrate my success at McGrath's Fish House. We ordered the steak and king crab dinner which was really good. After that we got home and watched some Lost and then Brandan had to go to work.
